We were hired by a distribution company to create a web-based
and pc-based ordering tool for their sales force of over
100 people. The purpose was to provide a seamless ordering
process with field sales representatives and internal corporate
staff that were using MAS 200 accounting software. It also
provides access to their inventory and various reporting
tools for several levels of users. The entire system could
be used with or without Internet access, depending on each
sales persons needs.
Several
types of orders could be made, depending on the client (over
5000 of them), and inventory items are updated automatically
twice daily. Each inventory item includes photo, description,
quantity, and prices.
The
offline program was built so that the sales representatives
could make orders, pull reports, and view inventory at a
client's office without accessing the Internet. This was
a much-needed requirement since most of the sales took place
in a remote office or warehouse environment. When the sales
person eventually accessed the Internet, they clicked a
'synch' button and the orders were uploaded to corporate
and new versions of the databases and images were downloaded
to the laptop.
